Adcock Ingram takes instances of non-conformance in product quality very seriously and engages with
the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) to ensure that any instances of non-
conformance are resolved.
Adcock Ingram received a few complaints on Panado® Paediatric Alcohol-Free Grape Syrup (“Panado
Grape”) and in collaboration with the SAHPRA, initiated a recall of Panado Grape from its direct
customers.
The recall was initiated because of the development of small white specks in a limited number of packed
units. These white specks are a result of the dissolved paracetamol (the active ingredient) coming out of
solution over time, which is called precipitation. As the syrup is clear and colourless, the precipitation of
paracetamol impacts the visual appearance of the product. The safety profile and efficacy (how the
product works) remains unchanged.
No other Panado products (syrups, tablets and effervescent tablets) are impacted.
